There is not much new to report at this time. The next phase of the
hardware implementation is still being prepped and planned. We hope
to have more information here on Monday.
With this being said, we should be ok going into the weekend, but
since we're stil not 100% upgraded, similar issues from past weekends
can still crop up especially during peak times/volume. Slow speeds,
slight backlogs, etc can be expected.
We are investigating why some groups are loading slow. We found one
possible cause and addressed that issue. The groups are loading
faster, but we're still looking into optimizing things further.
Our admins are aware of files that report an invalid codec or
unrecognized binary and do not create a thumbnail. We have some
examples and are looking into the cause and have a few directions to
test and go into. Although this is not a high priority compared to
the new hardware going online, it is being looked it.
There have been some cases of missing parts on the web. We have a
reallly good sampling of MIDs and are working on implementing work
around. We in a testing phase at this time and will post more on this
soon.
To reiterate Boromir's post from yesterday in case it was missed:
Autounrar is at the end of a queue of 'worker processes' - so it'll be
the last thing fully back to normal. It needs Fast Disk Space, which
we're upgrading - currently 85% of our 147 GB disk shelves are
upgraded to 300 GB and NOT in production yet. I wish this stuff could
be done instantly - but it takes time.
So while the ebbs and flows of our backlogs will change, our ability
to process them all is increasing with each week - to schedule. The
one delay we've had so far has been heat related and we have to shift
some equipment and airflow around to remedy.
Backlogs for all things will increase if we have decoder or peering
slowness too - but that's usually a short term issue.
As far as slow indexes and pages - we know what the problem is (Apache
on Solaris reading a special symlink) and we are rolling out the
solution.
